"The human touch is so healing, and when people come into the center, they’re greeted usually by cancer survivors themselves who already know what’s going on and are compassionate. I think that’s really important, and sometimes you don’t get that”

Patrick Dempsey

Patrick Dempsey’s experience of dealing with his mother’s illness while living in California led to the creation of The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

In 2007, the Dempsey Family approached Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with the idea of creating a local cancer support organization. Amanda had received cancer treatment at CMMC, and the family wished to not only help other families affected by cancer, but also give back to their local community.

The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing was founded in 2008 by Amanda’s children, Patrick, Mary and Alicia, in honor of Amanda, and in partnership with CMMC.

"Too often we understimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around"

Dr. Leo Buscaglia

And as always, funds raised by Challenge participants keep all of our services available at no cost to anyone impacted by cancer.
